Typologies into Kong “kong” is a common theme among Asian wisdom traditions. The power of nothingness resonates with the Buddhist philosophy of “form is emptiness, emptiness is form.” To further reflect such philosophy through product design, the brand “Bukong” is therefore created. The word Bukong comes from “Bu( 悟)” and “Kong(空). “Bu” means to understand. Thus Bukong is to understand the concept of eastern philosophy “Kong.” The mission is not just to design but to create pieces utilizing Chinese philosophy with western techniques, giving them life and spirit of Kong, as well as having them to be born and bathed in this aura around the site to reach a level of psychological enlightenment. “Bukong” wishes to seek the balance and the neutral ground between East and West, in the western concept of emptiness/non-emptiness and the eastern philosophy of Kong.
The design team of “Bukong” comes from one of the largest design firms in Asia, Nova Design. In 2008, Nova Design is the winners of iF golden award, red dot best of the best award, Excellence in Design golden award, and IDEA Silver award. Utilizing both the techniques from oriental craftsmanship and western industrial design methods. “Bukong” team attempted to launch a new statement in design, one that transcends cultural barriers, fuses the old and the new, and the east and the west.
